In 2018, my life took an unexpected but beautiful turn—I started my very first online job.
It wasn’t a fancy role. I wasn’t managing social media or running websites. It was a simple data entry position, but to me, it felt like winning the lottery. At that time, I was a full-time, hands-on mom focused solely on raising my eldest child. Every day was filled with feedings, naps, playtime, and routines. Motherhood was, and still is, one of the most fulfilling parts of my life—but I also longed to contribute financially. I had never imagined I could balance motherhood and earning from home. That first job opened a door I didn’t even know existed.
I was beyond grateful just to have the opportunity to earn from home. It meant I could help with small expenses, buy little things for my child, and gain a sense of fulfillment that came from doing something for myself again.
My Not-So-Perfect Setup
Let me be honest—my technical setup back then wasn’t advanced at all. I didn’t have a sleek home office or the latest gadgets. I worked on a secondhand computer, my internet connection was far from stable. I didn’t even have a proper desk, often with my child beside me.
But still, I made it work. I didn’t let my limitations stop me. What I lacked in tools, I made up for with perseverance and a strong desire to learn.
Learning the Ropes
Starting out was not easy. I didn’t know much about the virtual workspace or online platforms. I had no experience. All I had was curiosity, determination, and a willingness to learn. Slowly, I picked up the basics—how to meet deadlines, organize tasks, and use different tools or platforms. Knowing I was part of a system that helped businesses run smoothly, made me feel proud.
I’m especially thankful to Coach Leandro, who gave me my very first opportunity to work online. I didn’t have a polished resume or years of experience, but he saw my potential and gave me a chance. Together with his wife, Coach Katherine Padilla, they have now built a trusted community and training center known as SOVA – School of Virtual Assistance. They have helped shape the skills and work habits I carry with me today.
Fast Forward to Now
Over the years, I’ve grown so much—not just as a virtual assistant, but as a woman and as a mother. I learned how to manage my time better, how to focus even when the house is loud and messy, and how to balance work and family life without burning out.
Now in 2025, I’m a mother of three, and still working from home. My tasks —handling data, organizing files, helping teams run things smoothly—every click, every completed task, is a reminder of how far I’ve come.
I hope this blog inspires other moms who may be thinking, “Can I really work from home too?” My answer is: Yes, you can. You don’t need the perfect setup. You don’t need to be the most tech-savvy. You just need to take that first step—and keep going.
This is only the beginning of my story. Thank you for being part of it.
